Gas prices are on the rise...uh...yeah. I'm always on the prowl for relatively cheap avgas, and today it was Flabob (KRIR) that had the best price. I had called around to a bunch of local airports and updated AirNav. Flabob (home of EAA Chapter 1) is about 11 miles east of my home base, and I burn less than 2 gallons getting there or getting home from there. It's my new go-to spot for fuel.

I've flown into Flabob just shy of a zillion times, but it had been at least a month or two since the last time I was there. I pulled up in front of the restaurant to the shade structure where the fuel truck/tank has been for, as far as I can remember, many years. It was gone! Huh? Where's the fuel at, man? A kind pilot on the radio was gracious enough to respond to my unicom inquiry and told me that the fuel had moved to the east end. I glanced over and saw nothing. "I mean the WEST end," he came back and said, correcting himself. Ah... I taxied down to the west end and lo and behold, there stood a shiny new fuel island. Freshly paved all around, it sported a two-sided pump with credit card self-serve on each side, and an oil "vending machine" with no fewer than three varieties. It was like an oasis (it was a slow day, humor me).

Flabob has been getting some due attention. Apparently they're building a pseudo-residential airpark community here soon.
