Today the rain finally let up and the clouds broke up a bit. I jumped on the opportunity and flew Jen out to Catalina for a lunch date. I had sworn off landing at Catalina ever since they jacked the landing fee up to 20 bucks (yikes!), but every once in a while I need to cheat and head over there. I used to fly there all the time when I had the Mooney, and I hadn't landed there in the RV.

Long story short, we headed over for some buffalo nachos and buffalo tacos. Things have changed a little bit at the restaurant there. Not only has the landing fee gone up, but the quality of the food has gone down. And they haven't touched the taxiway. Where does my $20 go? Surely not into airport improvements. Well, at least I got it out of my system for a while. I have no intention of heading back anytime soon, despite how gorgeous it is over there.

On the way home Jen and I flew down the Orange County coast and did some sightseeing. Jen was really into it, and it's rare that Jen doesn't just want to "get there already." I savored the opportunity and enjoyed flying around with her.

We flew down to Dana Point and then headed inland and back up toward Chino. Over the Rancho Santa Margarita area, a huge flock of birds decided they wanted to form up on me in a head-on fashion, and I ended up going knife-edge to slice between 'em. It freaked Jen out and got my adrenaline going pretty good. Let's keep the birds out of the cockpit...
