Well, it's been raining like crazy here. Here's something that has nothing to do with the RV-7, but it did happen at the hangar. The starter on my 1996 Honda Accord has finally bit the dust. I attempted to overhaul it to remedy the problem. I've never overhauled a starter before, so I figure I may as well screw around on car parts. Good rainy day project.

I thought I was all slick and stuff, because I noticed that there was severe pitting and wear on the solenoid terminals.

Here's the solenoid shaft, all pitted. I sanded these parts smooth, cleaned the crap out of everything, relubed it, and reassembled it. I had high hopes that I'd turn the key and it would act like new.

No joy. Although...I'm happy to say the solenoid clicked and clacked stronger than ever, but the motor still refused to turn. Oh, well. I'm no electrical motor expert, that's for sure. Kragen to the rescue...a hundred bucks later, new starter, it's back to normal.
