Today, Wednesday, was the one day I had allocated in our schedule for taking friends up for rides in the aluminum box. I really wanted to show Bruce and Adam what this thing was made of. Anyway, as it worked out, I only went up with Bruce. It was kinda funny, because the day before, Adam had called Bruce's house...when I picked up the phone Adam thought I was Bruce and said, "So you survived your ride?" I played nonchalant and pretended like he meant Jen and my ride across the country. Hehhe... He had his foot in his mouth when he heard my answer and was like, "Oh, it's YOU. Oh...uh..." That's ok. But I did find it ironic that Adam would be skeptical or joke about it. Adam is the one who probably flew 200+ hours with me in the Warrior on all sorts of poorly planned, poorly executed flying exploits back in the day. He was always up for anything. Bruce was always the one who was a little skittish when the plane was pointed slightly sideways when crabbed into the wind on final (just say no to crabbing, I don't do it anymore). Anyway, the tables have turned. Adam's now the big wuss (or is totally whipped by his wife...), and Bruce is now the one who is totally gung-ho about the plane. He just couldn't get over how cool it looks, how "professional" it looks, and how he insists I absolutely shouldn't paint it because it looks so neat. Don't twist my arm...if the "skittish" ones think it looks good without paint, then I have no reason to paint it whatsoever.

Bruce went up with me today and absolutely loved it. We flew over a bunch of spots we identified and photographed from the air -- places he has lived, his in-laws' house, the house he built, etc. After that I wanted to get up and out of the hot choppy air, so I climbed up to 7500' and flew right over Boston. Here's a map that kind of implies where we were. Started at Taunton, flew over near Mansfield, back to Taunton, down to New Bedford, then up to Boston, back down, over, and through the woods.

Boston is a much smaller city from the air than I remember it being. I used to like getting a class B clearance and talking to Logan Tower, flying right over Fenway Park on a game night. Pretty cool. Today we were well above all the airspace, but it was nice and clear out.

A lot of these photos look the same...

...but hey, photos are free...

...and someday I might look back on this and be glad...

...that I have a bunch of 'em.

In this one you can see Boston, Logan, and the hahba pretty clearly.

On the way back Bruce said he didn't want to roll, but he'd be up for more gentle stuff. There were a few tiny scattered clouds at 7500', so I played around with those for a while. He dug it. Then he asked for some high-G turns and stuff. Don't twist my arm...

What's funny is that as soon as we landed, Bruce started going off about how he should have had me do a roll. Damn. Oh, well. All throughout the week, he kept saying that. And in the end it was Bruce who wanted us to spend another day or two out there so we could do some more flying. I was really surprised. I figured Adam would be the one to be into it and Bruce would be hesitant. People change!
