Today I spent an hour or two sanding the top cowl edges to create some paint thickness clearance. Here you can see where I ended up calling it quits. It's a little less than some people recommended (would you believe some folks actually said 1/8" clearance is appropriate?!), at maybe .025" max, but that's as far as I'm willing to go for now. I really don't want hinges exposed too much when all is said and done.
Anyway, this process wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, but it definitely was repetitive. Take the top cowl off, uncleco the hinge(s), sand, cleco the hinge(s) back on, replace the top cowl, pin it, check it, repeat. It took maybe 6 or 7 iterations to get it where I wanted it. Going slowly is appropriate here!
